Our objective here is to develop opportunities for individuals to volunteer overseas to develop their understanding of global citizenship principals and challenges as well as contributing to the sustainable development of the country in which they are operating.
We have analysed keys areas where we feel that a targeted intervention will enhance opportunities in this area and will carefully link our investments to create a strategy for change.
Volunteer placements should be part of a longer term commitment to developments and to building the capacity of the target communities. We are particularly attracted to the concept of providing specific skills relevant to the communities requirements to help bring about planned change. Additionally our supported volunteers must not displace local employment or business.
The majority of our investment will be targeted at supporting strategic partners who can demonstrate their ability to deliver projects to scale and operate within our guiding principals – they will be identified on a proactive basis. This programme will be run from our UK office and we will provide additional business development, training, guidance and performance management to enable sustained and successful programmes with our partners.
WFT will also accept applications from individuals and groups who are local to the North East of Scotland and will fund a small number of these on an annual basis. Please contact the Trust for further information on how to make an application.
