WFT has invested £138,000 over two years in the Winning Scotland Foundation to establish and pilot Positive Coaching Scotland - a programme that aims to re-engage and retain 66,000 young people in Scottish Sport by looking at the way sport is coached in Scottish Schools and Sports Clubs. The intial pilots are being delivered in four local authorities and the SFA in Fife and are capturing the imagination of sports coaches, teachers and parents who see a real benefit of this alternative method of coaching.
Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS) is based on a highly successful US model, which was developed at Stanford University in 1998 to combat escalating health and social problems. Since then, it has been used by over 1,100 sports organisations, affecting over three million young people, and is helping to create a positive sporting culture in the US. PCS creates a positive environment in youth sport which focuses on encouraging effort and learning, improving performance and fostering competition which helps young people deal positively with mistakes.
Winning Scotland Foundation is an independent business-led charity which is working to create a positive winning attitude throughout Scotland.
